COMMEMORATION DAY (CEASE FIRE DAY) PARADE & SERVICE

Once again we were very lucky with the weather-a clear blue sky ,bright sunlight , but a cold wind, all came together for us on the 27th July 03.
The CEASE FIRE COMMEMORATION DAY.
After a late start , about 200 veterans formed up on the forecourt of the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance , headed by an Australian Army Band, our Association Executives and VIP,s Two units of Army cadets carried the 27 flags, (23 UN Nations and Royal Australian Navy , Air Force, The Victorian State Flag, and the Freedom Is Not Free - 50th Anniversary flag).
We marched to the right of the Shrine where the Water Wall Feature to the Korea War memorial is located. Where we were greeted by friends and families of the Marchers, watched by tourists visiting the Shrine.
The service was conducted by Rev Bernie Brooker - our ever faithful Padre, standing in for John Brownbill who was in Korea for the Services there, also in Korea were Our President Vic Dey , Senior Vice President Don Macleod, and Committeeman Allan Riches, representing the KVAA Inc.
Our Junior Vice president Dennis Lehmann, did a magnificent job of holding everything together, giving a very stirring welcome to our Guest speaker Lt Col Ben O'Dowd (Rtd) who was escorted by our Patron Maj Gen Jim Hughs AO,DSO,MC As we Honoured the 340 Australians who did not return from the war, and those that have passed on since.
LEST WE FORGET
Following the service we gathered at the Bells Hotel in South Melbourne, for snacks and a few beers, it was once again a truely wonderful get together, with the extra added Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Korean war Cease Fire.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.

BAIRNSDALE BEAUFORT MEMORIAL GARDENS

On the 22 of November 03, we dedicated a KOREA WAR
Plaque mounted on a large rock about half way along the
memorial pathway.
This location was/is ideal, in that it is facing the RSL Club rooms,
which are just across the highway.
A bus load
of KVAA Inc members and wives, attended the service,
with many others from the local area and
others
who drove themselves. Approximately 50 Korea connected people,
attended ours, while at least the same number
attended the
other dedications taking place at the same time.
Photo's
show that it was a very wet day, but we 'stayed with it'
then headed at full speed across the road??
